Vitamin B5 – Pantothenic Acid

Vitamin B5 – Pantothenic Acid

B Complex Vitamin

Vitamin B5 is an antioxidant that is very important for good adrenal function because it helps produce cortisone. Antioxidants provide an extra electron to free radicals so they don't have to steal one from somewhere else in the body. This seems to provide protection from all sorts of degenerative diseases like heart disease, cancer and just general aging. It also protects the body from the side effects of stress, and helps to prevent fatigue and nervous disorders. It can help you fight infection by building antibodies, and also inhibits loss of hair color. It is also important in overcoming the side effects of drugs, especially after surgery. Like many other B vitamins, pantothenic acid is also needed in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

Extra Vitamin B5 Requirements

There are certain population groups that are more likely to need B5 supplementation. These include the elderly, those with drinking problems and those who take cholesterol-lowering drugs, according to Dr. Song, an associate professor of nutrition at Michigan State University. Dr. Song has also found that the body uses coenzyme A, which contains vitamin B5, in order to detoxify many chemicals, including those found in pesticides, herbicides and various drugs. This means that this is a very important vitamin for all of us in today's age where so many harmful man-made chemicals abound. We probably all need extra B5 today!

Deficiency Symptoms of Pantothenic Acid

Tiredness, fatigue, insomnia and muscle cramping, as well as anemia and lack of coordination can result from a deficiency of pantothenic acid. Further symptoms include gastrointestinal distress like constipation and vomiting.

Food Sources of Vitamin B5

Nutritional yeast, whole grains including brown rice, poultry and organ meats, broccoli and yams, mushrooms, salmon , eggs, peanuts and other legumes. When you cook, can or process foods containing pantothenic acid, up to 50 percent of it can be destroyed.

Supplementing with Vitamin B5

Many health care practitioners caution you to be careful about taking any B vitamin in isolation, unless you know you are very low in a certain B vitamin. Even then, it is easy for you to cause another imbalance by supplementing high levels of just one or a few B vitamins. It is usually recommended to take B vitamins in a B vitamin complex. Make sure and look for a natural B vitamin, as they are typically better absorbed by the body. Synthetic B vitamins are typically made out of coal tar derivatives. A good B complex vitamin is the that comes in a highly absorbable liquid.

Vitamin C - The Master Nutrient

Vitamin C, The Master Nutrient
Part I: Benefits

A report in Lancet, March 2001, stated those with highest levels of vitamin C in their blood had one half risk of death all causes, including heart disease. Dr. Kay Tee Khaw found there was a decreased risk of cancer for those with high levels of C in their
blood. German physician Matthias Rath theorizes cholesterol is used by body as a temporary repair substance for walls of arteries when there is not enough of C complex available permanently repair arterial damage.

In addition, there is abundant research show vitamin C is vital for many fundamental processes in body. For example, it is a well known immune system builder as well as an aid in maintaining healthy skin, eyes and gums and in forming collagen. It is also a powerful antioxidant, which means it can help protect your body free radicals created in abundance in modern world by stress, pollution and toxins.

Additional Functions of Vitamin C in Body

In addition above to the functions, C complex does a lot of other things in body. In fact, some have called it a nutrient "extraordinaire." Vitamin C can aid in tissue growth and repair, and is hence helpful in healing after surgery. It also as acts as a natural antihistamine and can protect against development of allergies. Studies have shown C can help reduce asthma symptoms as well.

The C vitamin aids in manufacture of hormones adrenaline and cortisone and also in neurotransmitter norepinephrine. Neurotransmitters critical for proper brain function and mood. Vitamin C has been found aid in proper adrenal and thyroid function. It also helps regulate cholesterol levels and reduce incidence of gallstones.

The C complex vitamin also increases absorption of iron, and can combine with toxins in body like heavy metals and turn them into harmless substances so they can be eliminated body. Huge amounts of C found in adrenal, pituitary and thymus glands, as well as in retina in your eyes. Many other organs, like brain, lungs, liver, spleen, thyroid and pancreas also contain much higher amounts of C than your blood does.

Vitamin C is needed make carnitine, which is used help transfer energy cells.

This may explain why some feel an increase of energy when adding vitamin C-rich foods their diet. Recent studies have shown have adequate C, will oxidize 30% more fat during moderate exercise than those with low C. This implies C vitamin may be useful for weight loss. In fact, recent research has shown level of vitamin C in body is inversely related body mass. This means more overweight are, lower your levels of C. People of normal weight tend have higher levels of C vitamin. In addition, it appears vitamin C dilutes fat, which makes it easier flush out of your system. Try adding some vitamin C-rich fruits or vegetables each meal, like citrus fruits, red peppers, parsley or broccoli. Are You Still Eating Trans-Fatty Acids?

Are You Still Eating Trans-Fatty Acids?

Trans-fatty acids are molecules that have changed their shape after being heated or hydrogenated. They contribute to heart disease by increasing the “bad” LDL’s, and damage the immune system and liver function. They also have been linked to cancer.

Trans-fatty acids are still found in many products because hydrogenated oils prolong shelf life and make food smoother, softer or crisper. Trans-fatty acids are found in margarine, deep-fried foods such as donuts and French fries. They are in most processed foods – packaged cookies, cakes and salad dressings, as well as many frozen dinners. They are also found in most processed oils, like soybean and canola oil. Unfortunately, they are often found in olive oil as well, since many olive oils are not 100% olive oil.

The oils added to olive oil must be highly processed in order to make them undetectable, and that means trans-fatty acids!

It’s better to make your own foods and to use and cook with virgin or expeller-pressed coconut oil, real organic olive oil, and organic butter from pasture-fed cows.

Remember not to heat the butter or oil over high temperatures.

Natural Body Care Products

Natural Body Care Products

According to the FDA Office of Cosmetics and Colors, 1995, the “FDA cannot require companies to do safety testing of their cosmetic products before marketing.” The majority of cosmetic and other body care product ingredients are not tested for their safety before being used. It is unlikely that individual applications of one product are causing immediate harm, however, most of us use many products per day, such as shampoo, conditioner, make-up, facial cleanser, moisturizers, etc., and all these exposures may add up. Very little is known about the cumulative exposures to personal care products, but that does not mean that it is safe.

Did you know that pharmaceutical companies have investigated putting drugs into shampoos because the scalp is so thin that it readily absorbs substances that are put on it? Many other personal care products are put on our skin and stay there and are absorbed all day long – do you ever wonder about their safety?

According to the Environmental Working Group, in the United States, the FDA has banned or restricted nine (9) ingredients out of 1,175 that are used in personal care products. The European Union, in contrast, has banned 450 ingredients for use in cosmetics. Hmm…

Some further food for thought: Cancer rates are now approaching 1 in 2 American men and 1 in 3 American women – this is up from 1 in 4 Americans in the 1950s despite huge expenditures on the “War on Cancer.” Dr. Samuel Epstein from the University of Illinois says that cancer rates have gone up about 60% from 1950 to 1998. A lot of us think that these rising cancer rates are at least in part due to our increasing exposure to carcinogenic chemicals, often in small amounts that accumulate in our bodies over time. These come from our food, our air and water, household furnishings and building materials, cleaning products and personal care products.

Commonly Used Chemicals in
Personal Care Products

Artificial Fragrances are derived in large part from petrochemicals, not flower essences or other herbal products as many imagine. These petrochemicals release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that often cause headaches, skin irritation, nausea and allergies. Some are carcinogenic, contain or release formaldehyde or are toxic to the nervous system. Many artificial fragrances contain phthalates, which are linked to birth defects in the male reproductive system. Phthalates were found in a 2002 study by a coalition of environmental and public health organizations in deodorants, fragrances, body lotions, and hair gels, mousses and sprays. Artificial fragrances in general are found in many cosmetic and personal care products.

Ingredients like Coal Tar, Benzyl Violet 4B, Formaldehyde, Lead Acetate, Selenium Sulfide and Silica are either known to be carcinogenic or may be carcinogenic.

The family of preservatives known as Parabens, which includes methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, and butylparaben, has recently been identified as xenoestrogens which mimic the sex hormone estrogen. They are widely used in shampoos and cosmetics for adults as well as children. However, Dr. S. Oishi of the Department of Toxicology, Tokyo metropolitan Research laboratory of Public Health, Japan, reported that the daily sperm production in lab test of animals was significantly lower in those receiving a dose of parabens that is “similar to the lower level of acceptable daily intake for parabens in the European Community and in Japan.”

Another study by researchers at the Department of Veterinary Public Health, College of Veterinary Medicine and School of Agricultural Biotechnology, Seoul National University, Suwon, Korea showed that sperm counts were down in newborns whose mothers were exposed to parabens during pregnancy.

According to an article by Healthy Living, all women of childbearing age or parents of young children should stop using products with parabens.

Diethanolamine (DEA) is often used as a foaming agent and emulsifier in shampoos. However, a federal National Toxicology Program completed a study in 1998 that found an association between cancer in lab animals and the topical application of DEA and other DEA-related ingredients. DEA can also lead to the formation of nitrosamines, which are known carcinogens. In response, many manufacturers switched to cocamide MEA. However, the FDA says that cocomide MEA is one “of the most commonly used ingredients that may contain DEA.” Other ingredients that include other types of MEA or TEA may also contain DEA.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG), including PEG-6, PEG-150 and other similar ingredients can be found in shampoos, lotions and other personal care products. However, a report in the International Journal of Toxicology routinely found many impurities in PEG, including ethylene oxide and 1,4-Dioxane. Ethylene oxide increases the risk of uterine, breast and other cancers. 1,4-Dioxane is a suspected human carcinogen. Testing commissioned by the Doctors’ Prescription for Health Living showed that around 50 percent of personal care products with PEG contain significant amounts of 1.4-dioxane. PEG is also found in some “natural” products.

High Quality
Natural Body Care Products

If you are serious about reducing the amount of chemicals you are exposed to on a day to day basis, you need to search out body care products that are free of the above mentioned chemicals. The following company produces many fine products that are free of these and other possibly toxic chemicals:

Soignee

The Soignee skin care line contains MSM with Liposome Binding Action. MSM is a natural sulfur compound that contributes to healthy skin, hair and nails. EcoViva's Super Foods

Why Quantum & Peak Energy
Nutritional Supplements?

The adage "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" holds even more true today. Modern physicians and health care professionals are taking this to heart and treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. The Journal of the American Medical Association is now encouraging all individuals to eat healthier and invest in nutritional supplementation that contains vitamins and minerals that are lacking in our diets today.

The health and nutrition market is now experiencing a period of rapid expansion. The public is seeking ways to avoid the increasing cost and dangerous side effects of today's prescription medicines. However, the typical "health food" store is manned by inexperienced hourly employees who cannot answer the customer's many health issue questions, and contain many supplements that have synthetic vitamins or minerals and/or contain toxic fillers.

In contrast, Quantum and Peak Energy health food vitamins, found at EcoViva.com, are based on their slogan "Nutrition That Really Works". Quantum, who makes the Quantum, Premier and Peak Energy brands of super food supplements, pledges that their products have been thoroughly tested to be non-toxic and effective. They guarantee that what is on the label is exactly what is in the bottle! They use the Ayurvedic grading system for herbal quality, which quickly identifies the quality of each raw material. They are told by exporters that their company is the only Grade 10 importer in the United States!

Quantum Rx and Peak Energy nutraceutical vitamin supplements are clinically proven to help the body overcome illness and improve health. Quantum Rx Products are certified organic, never irradiated. They contain no pesticides or toxic chemicals, and they utilize enzymatic processes for superior phytochemical availability. All Quantum Rx capsules are 100% pure vegetable capsules (Vcaps) instead of tablets which are filled with glues and binders and hardened with heat and pressure or gelatin capsules that use toxic preservatives and are made from animal body parts, such as hooves, which can carry serious diseases. Their vegetable capsules are twice as well absorbed as a gelatin capsule and are free of toxic preservatives. Vcaps are considerably more expensive than gelatin capsules but they are worth the extra investment.

Quantum Rx Nutraceuticals are also guaranteed free of milk, corn, soy, salt, sugar, wheat, yeast, artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and toxic stearic acid or magnesium stearate.

This is all a part of the total “Quantum Rx Effect. Each cell in the body is replaced every 160 days. The health of those cells depends upon the nutrition they are fed. Only nutrients from "once living" sources can effectively give the cells the nutrition they depend upon. Over 97% of the vitamin and mineral supplements found in the typical retail "health" store are synthetics or made from fractionated and isolated nutrients. These products cannot hope to perform the important task of healthy cell regeneration. In long-term use, these poorer sources can often lead to additional health problems.

The only source for ideal cellular growth on the market today is Quantum Rx Nutrition. When QNL Quantum Rx whole food phyto-nutrients are combined together synergistically, their effect is far greater than the sum of individual vitamins and minerals. This geometric increase, by a factor of 100 fold or more, is called the “Quantum Rx Effect. Only a vitamin with a truly potent, living source ingredients like these can be called the greatest vitamin in the world.

The typical American has an extensive toxic burden and acidic pH factor. These are the first elements that must be addressed to help an individual sustain or regain great health. Formulating and manufacturing products that can achieve the “Quantum Rx Effect” is not easy. The extensive staff at Quantum Nutrition Labs, LLC performs many clinical trials and numerous formula revisions until the perfect synergistic formulation is produced.

The end result of this extensive effort is simply "Nutrition That Really Works.” All of these super foods are found at EcoViva.com.

Virgin Coconut Oil

The Healthy Coconut Diet

If you’re reading this, you probably don’t need anyone to tell you that being overweight is not only bad for your self-esteem, but is downright hazardous to your health. Pre-mature death as well as many diseases are linked to obesity, including:

  • Diabetes

  • Heart disease

  • Cancer

  • Gallstones

If you’re like most overweight people, you have been trying to lose weight for a long, long time, but have not been successful. Or perhaps you go on diets and do lose weight, only to gain it back again and then some – the “yo-yo” diet syndrome, that many experts say is more dangerous than simply being overweight. Many people become desperate, and use drugs that can be damaging to your health in other ways. Well, we are here to tell you that losing weight and then maintaining that weight in a healthy way can be easier than you think! And if you do it naturally, like we are suggesting, you will most likely end up far healthier at the same time, with more energy and vitality than you’ve had in a long time.

So, why is this diet called the “Healthy Coconut Diet?” That is somewhat of a misnomer since coconut oil and coconut products are just one part of this diet, albeit an important one. We do suggest consuming coconut oil and other coconut products on this diet, because, along with some other things we will discuss shortly, many people have reported that consuming coconut oil helps them to lose weight and/or to maintain a proper weight. Perhaps you’ve read in the media somewhere like in Women’s World Magazine about the miracles of coconut oil and coconut products for losing weight. Coconut oil is not a panacea, however. Our diet is far more than that. It’s a healthy way of eating for life that may have some surprises for you as you read about it.

Benefits of Coconut Oil

Amongst the other benefits we will discuss in more detail later, coconut oil can help you to:

  • Lose weight more easily and keep that weight from coming back

  • Increase your energy

  • Increase your metabolism

  • Promote healthy thyroid function

Coconut Oil and Weight Loss

Many people have reported that consuming Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) helps them to lose weight. They often see increased energy levels and fewer cravings for carbohydrates and sweets. It’s easier for many people to eat less when consuming 2 - 6 Tablespoons of coconut oil per day, because the fats provide a feeling of satiety or fullness after eating that is not generally experienced when eating a low-fat meal. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why low-fat diet don’t work in the long-term.

Other Benefits of Coconut Oil

Besides boosting your metabolism, the lauric acid in coconut oil is proven to be anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal, so it helps to boost your immune system and to keep you from getting sick. The lauric acid helps your body to fight bacterial infections, including strep, viral infections, including HIV and herpes, parasites like giardia and candida fungal infections.

Dr. Conrado S. Dayrit, M.D., after a 1999-2000 study of HIV patients, concluded that coconut oil does have an anti-viral effect and that it “can beneficially reduce the viral load of HIV patients.”

Low-Fat Diets Don’t Work

Are you still caught up in the low-fat mantra of the past couple decades? Do you think you have to cut back on the amount of fat you eat if you are trying to lose weight? These ideas are still so prevalent in our media and in the low-fat products you see everywhere, in the grocery stores and in restaurants, that it’s no wonder you may still believe this. In fact, even many doctors still believe this. However, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Controli, in 1999-2000, an estimated 64% of adults in the United States were either obese or overweight. That’s almost 2/3 of the adult population! 1/3 of our children are now overweight as well, and these figures are increasing. In the past 30 years, the number of overweight children has doubled. In just the past decade, the number of obese people in the U.S. has gone up 2 ½ times. ii Fifty years ago, only a small percentage of the population had problems with their weight. Now it’s an epidemic! All this has happened while we cut back from 40% to around 32% fat as a percentage of our diet.

Low-fat diets not only don’t work, but they’re not healthy, not natural, and they tend to promote weight gain! Research confirms this statement. The famous Framingham Study that started in 1948 is still going on, and it shows that the more saturated fat, the more calories, and the more cholesterol a person ate, the lower their serum cholesterol! The results also show that the more fat they ate, the less they weighed! We are eating less fat as a nation, but are gaining weight. There are a number of reasons for this. One is that since fat gives foods much of their flavor, when manufacturers cut out the fat, they add sugar, MSG and other chemicals to the food to enhance the taste. These can all have adverse effects on both our weight and our health.

Saturated Fats Are Necessary for Good Health

Many of us, doctors and laypeople alike, were taught that red meat and fat, and especially saturated fats, are to be avoided. We still hear that they cause all sorts of problems, including high cholesterol, heart disease and weight gain. However, if you carefully study the research, you will see that it shows the opposite to be true. Saturated fat is a vital nutrient and is necessary for good health. In order for your body to properly use fat-soluble vitamins, you need to have the fat in your foods. Calcium, too, needs fats for proper absorption. That’s another reason why we suggest using full-fat dairy products and putting butter and cream on your calcium-rich leafy green and other vegetables and eating salad with oil-based dressings. If you eat this way, you will increase your absorption of the vitamins and minerals contained in those salads and other vegetables, which will not only help you be healthier, but may help you to lose weight. It seems that many people overeat because the foods they are consuming are not providing them with the nutrients that they need.

While we Americans have been lowering the amount of fat in our diets, especially saturated fats like animal meats, butter, lard, coconut oil and full-fat dairy products, not only have obesity rates skyrocketed, like previously discussed, but heart disease rates have also increased. A wealth of research points to vegetable oils, sugar (especially high-fructose corn syrup), and refined grains (“bad carbs”) as a major cause of obesity, and to trans-fats, and vegetable oils and shortening as a major cause of heart disease.

FACT: By 1950, butter consumption had dropped from 18 lbs per person per year to just over 10.

FACT: Heart disease caused probably no more than 10% of US deaths prior to the 1920’s. By the 1950’s it had risen to 30% or more.

According to Dr. Ron Rosedale, iii when you eat lots of carbohydrates, especially simple carbohydrates like sugar and white flour products, your body converts them to sugar and then burns that sugar instead of burning fat. Saturated fats act as a carrier for the “fat soluble” vitamins A, D, E and K. When the fat is removed from foods in our diet, many of these vitamins are also removed, and our absorption of these vitamins also goes way down.

Saturated fats protect the liver from alcohol, drugs and other toxins.iv Saturated fats also support the immune system, which helps keep you from getting sick.v Saturated fats are needed for correct bone development and in order to prevent osteoporosis. A high level of fat in the diet needs to be saturated in order for the body to properly utilize calcium.vi This means that a low-fat diet with plenty of calcium and/or calcium supplements is not necessarily going to prevent osteoporosis.

Saturated fatty acids are necessary for proper functioning of all our cell membranes. They give our cells the firmness necessary to maintain structural integrity. All your cells and organs, especially the brain, need saturated fats in order to function properly.

Traditional Fats and Blood Sugar

Many people have reported being better able to regulate their blood sugar with regular consumption of the traditional fats like dairy fats, including butter, eggs, beef and coconut oil. Trans-fats can interfere with insulin receptors, so stay away from them if you want to keep your blood sugar levels normal. Vitamin D, also found in saturated fats like butter, lard and cod liver oil, helps your body to adequately use insulin. Regulating your blood sugar is not only important for preventing diabetes, but for all of us if we want to be healthy and of normal weight.

Ten Synthetic Cosmetic Ingredients to Avoid:
Aubrey Hampton, founder of Aubrey-Organics, has put together a list of his top ten synthetic cosmetic ingredients that he suggests you avoid. If you want natural products, you have to be willing to search them out – many, many companies say their products are natural, but use some of the following ingredients in their hair and skin care products:

1. Methyl and Propyl and Butyl and Ethyl Paraben — Used as inhibitors of microbial growth and to extend shelf life of products. Widely used even though they are known to be toxic. Have caused many allergic reactions and skin rashes. Methyl paraben combines benzoic acid with the methyl group of chemicals. Highly toxic.

2. Imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea — These are the most commonly used preservatives after the parabens. They are well established as a primary cause of contact dermatitis (American Academy of Dermatology). Two trade names for these chemicals are Germall II and Germall 115. Neither of the Germall chemicals have a good antifungal, and must be combined with other preservatives. Germall 115 releases formaldehyde at just over 10°. These chemicals are toxic.

3. Petrolatum — This is sometimes an ingredient in lip products, which is kind of humorous because they're usually advertised as protecting the lips from sunburn, chapping and so forth. Petrolatum is mineral oil jelly, and mineral oil causes a lot of photosensitivity (i.e., promotes sun damage) problems when used on the skin and it tends to interfere with the body's own natural moisturizing mechanism, leading to dry skin and chapping. Skin and lip care products with petrolatum create the very conditions they claims to alleviate. Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap.

4. Propylene Glycol — Ideally this is a vegetable glycerin mixed with grain alcohol, both of which are natural. Usually it is a synthetic petrochemical mix used as a humectant. Has been known to cause allergic and toxic reactions.

5. PVP/VA Copolymer — A petroleum-derived chemical used in hairsprays, wavesets and other cosmetics. It can be considered toxic, since particles may contribute to foreign bodies in the lungs of sensitive persons.

6. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate — This synthetic substance is used in shampoos for its detergent and foam-building abilities. It causes eye irritations, skin rashes, hair loss, scalp scurf similar to dandruff, and allergic reactions. It is frequently disguised in pseudo-natural cosmetics with the parenthetic explanation "comes from coconut."

7. Stearalkonium Chloride — A chemical used in hair conditioners and creams. Causes allergic reactions. Stearalkonium chloride was developed by the fabric industry as a fabric softener, and is a lot cheaper and easier to use in hair conditioning formulas than proteins or herbals, which do help hair health. Toxic.

8. Synthetic Colors — The synthetic colors used to supposedly make a cosmetic "pretty" should be avoided at all costs, along with hair dyes. They will be labeled as FD&C or D&C, followed by a color and a number. Example: FD&C Red No. 6 / D&C Green No. 6. Synthetic colors are believed to be cancer-causing agents. If a cosmetic contains them, don't use it.

9. Synthetic Fragrances — The synthetic fragrances used in cosmetics can have as many as 200 ingredients. There is no way to know what the chemicals are, since on the label it will simply say "Fragrance." Some of the problems caused by these chemicals are headaches, dizziness, rash, hyperpigmentation, violent coughing, vomiting, skin irritation. Avoid cosmetics that has the word "Fragrance" on the ingredients label, unless you are sure that the fragrance comes from 100% all natural essential oils. (Usually, the word fragrance denotes synthetic fragrance).

10. Triethanolamine (TEA) — Often used in cosmetics to adjust the pH, and used with many fatty acids to convert acid to salt (stearate), which then becomes the base for a cleanser. TEA causes allergic reactions including eye problems, dryness of hair and skin, and could be toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time.
Aubrey Hampton’s Summary about Cosmetic Ingredients: Look for natural ingredients in all the cosmetic products you buy. Do not use cosmetics that are artificially colored. Is the shampoo bright green or blue? Very likely it contains a coal tar color. Does the product contain synthetic fragrances? Don't buy it. You may find that some of your allergy problems will suddenly disappear when you no longer use cosmetics formulated with petrochemicals and other synthetics.

This line includes Aloe Essence Revitalizing Shampoo for Damaged/Treated Hair, Aloe Essence Revitalizing Conditioner for Dry/Damaged Hair, Aloe Essence Everyday Shampoo for Normal Hair and Aloe Essence Shine Booster & Detangler for All Hair Types.

The Aloe EssenceTM Difference:
  • What's NOT in Aloe EssenceTM
  • NO SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate)
  • NO paraben preservatives
  • NO synthetic colors or fragrances
  • NO petrochemicals of any kind
  • NO hydrosols or floral waters

The Hydrosol Question
Many shampoos sold as "organic" not only contain petrochemicals—they're based on "organic hydrosols" or "organic floral waters," usually listed on the label as the first or second ingredient. These ingredients are mostly added water, and we don't think they're a good value for your dollar. Aloe EssenceTM Shampoos contain no hydrosols to boost the percentage of "organic" ingredients. Crafted from whole, organic aloe, they offer all the synergy of natural, unprocessed plant liquids and organic herbals, and none of the watered-down herbs or chemical additives. Much more than an "organic experience," Aloe EssenceTM is the real thing—nothing less.Unique Organic Hair Care from Aubrey Organics®

Aloe Essence shampoos, conditioners and styling aids are the latest additions to Aubrey’s organic product line, part of Aubrey Organics’ commitment to organic ingredients and environmentally sound, 100% natural products. But this new hair care line is marked by another Aubrey first. They are the first personal care company to recognize the beneficial properties of organic orange pith juice on the hair, and the first to use it as a major component in Aloe EssenceTM organic hair care products.

The Story Behind the Juice

Unlike hydrosols found in many "organic" products, which contain tiny amounts of organic plant materials dispersed in water, orange pith juice is the unprocessed plant liquid squeezed from the peel and pith of organically grown oranges. After the oranges have been juiced and their essential oils harvested, citrus growers have always had to deal with the problem of what to do with what remains—the pith and peel. These leftovers are sometimes squeezed again to obtain pith juice, which is processed into citrus molasses and sold to distilleries to make citrus alcohol. The pith and peel can then be dried and shaped into pellets to be used as livestock feed. But often, the pith juice ends up as waste. But now. Aubrey has found a new way to utilize this sustainable agricultural product in organic, handcrafted hair care formulas that help support the U.S. citrus industry, benefit the environment and enhance the health and beauty of the hair.

Orange Pith Juice and Your Hair
Who would have thought that a byproduct of citrus processing could be used to improve the performance of organic hair care products? Aubrey Organics, that's who. The shine-enhancing and protective properties of this antioxidant-rich plant liquid have proved excellent for the hair and scalp. Further research allowed Aubrey to create a new line of organic hair care products the right way, and put this innovative ingredient to good use—naturally. Orange pith juice is high in fruit acids, which help seal the hair's outer layer, or cuticle, leaving the hair fiber smoother, stronger, and with more shine. Plus closing the cuticle also helps seal in vital nutrients, making orange pith juice an excellent delivery system for herbs, vitamins and other ingredients beneficial to the hair. You'll find organic orange pith juice listed as the first or second ingredient in the entire Aloe EssenceTM hair care line (including shampoos, conditioners, Shine Booster & Detangler, and Hairspray). It takes roughly 90 pounds of oranges to make 1.3 gallons of pith juice. That means you'll find the pith juice from seven organic oranges in just one bottle of Aloe EssenceTM shampoo. These uniquely organic formulas offer the synergy of natural, unprocessed plant liquids in 100% natural products for your hair. Much more than an "organic experience," Aloe EssenceTM is the real thing.

The Aloe Essence Revitalizing Shampoo & Conditioner for Damaged Hair contains a protective, antioxidant formula that strengthens damaged hair and restores manageability to stressed hair. The orange pith juice smoothes hair fibers, seals in nutrients and boosts shine. This formula will condition and soothe your hair with a tropical essential oil blend of grapefruit, ylang ylang and lavender. The conditioner will deep-condition your hair with organic shea butter, evening primrose and Rosa Mosqueta oils.

The Aloe Essence Everyday Shampoo for Normal Hair is also formulated with orange pith juice to smooth hair fiber, seal in nutrients and boost shine. It’s lightly scented bay, orange & lemon essential oils will tone and refresh the scalp, while it lightly conditions for manageabililty and softness.

The Aloe Essence Shine Booster & Detangler works well for all hair types. This is a leave-in, 95% organic spray that works fast on stubborn tangles and frizzies. It boosts shine with fruit acids and adds body with panthenol. Works great for restyling in-between shampoos.
